Hey guys, so you may have heard about the new font format on the scene, OpenSVG or Colour fonts. This new format is really exciting because it means we can start adding much more detail to the letters than previously possible. Avallon is my latest handpainted brush font, and my first which makes use of this new technology, by using actual brush stroke images with incredible definition. With this font you get an amazing paintbrush effect built in, as a transparent texture, with no extra work required. (I know, it’s awesome).
Another great thing about OpenSVG formats is that they install and work like any other font, and can be used in any colour, on any background. Check out the tutorial video in our blog to see how it works!
Your download will include 6 font files and 1 PSD (Photoshop) File;
1. Avallon SVG • A high definition SVG brush font, containing upper & lowercase characters with a drawn height of roughly 800 pixels (letter sizes vary).
2. Avallon Alt SVG • This is a second version of Avallon SVG, with a completely new set of lowercase characters. If you wanted to avoid letters looking the same each time to recreate a custom-made style, or try a different word shape, simply switch to this font for an additional layout option.
3. Avalon All Caps SVG • A brand new set of capital letters which work much better when using all-caps, and pairs perfectly with the regular version.
⭐ Please Read! At the moment, the SVG fonts only have basic punctuation built-in. This is due to limitations in the font software as it’s a new format, and also to keep the size of the fonts down as it uses very high definition imagery. This is something I’m hoping to update in the future (all updates are free). BUT!The full range of punctuation & accents are available in the included Photoshop file, and can be manually added to your text, but are not yet programmed into the SVG font. They are however programmed into the TTF fonts, which contains the entire character set, in the traditional format.
4. TTF versions of the 3 SVG fonts • All 3 Avallon fonts are also included in the traditional vectorised TTF format. This format doesn’t have the same level of detail as the SVG version, but is still a very versatile brush font with textured edges and is universally supported.
5. Layered PSD (Photoshop) file • If you’re unable to access the OpenSVG font, but would still like the high definition characters, I’ve included the full glyph set as separate images in a layered Photoshop file, which you can simply copy and paste into your document.
Requirements;
The OpenSVG format requires Photoshop CC 2017 or Illustrator CC 2018 (or newer).
If you don’t have this software available, fear not! As well as traditional TTF versions which are widely supported, I’ve also included a Photoshop file which includes each of the high definition OpenSVG characters on a separate image layer.
Language Support; English, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Swedish, Norweigen, Danish, Dutch, Turkish, Polish, Finnish, Romanian, Hungarian, Estonian, Filipino, Indonesian, Icelandic, Romansh, Welsh
Thanks for checking it out, and feel free to get in touch if you had any queries 🙂

Hello Sam, I love this font and the new SVG format I do not know yet. Great invention. As a graphic designer, I think it’s awesome. Can I also use this font for websites? It would be a great font for my current one. I am pleased about a short message from you. Gladly also by Mail to antje@wenndann.net. Best regards and thanks for your work, Antje
Hi Antje,
Thanks for your kind words and I’m really glad you like the font! Yes you’re welcome to use this font on your website – if you’re planning on using it as a webfont (i.e. highlightable, scalable, clickable text), then this would only work with the standard TTF versions of the font – not the Opentype-SVG format. You would just need to convert those TTF files into a webfont format using an online converter such as http://www.transfonter.org. You’re still welcome to use the SVG version on websites, however it would need to be in an image format as it does not have browser support for webfont use at the moment. I hope that makes sense 🙂
Thanks,
Sam
Thanks Sam. I will try it. Also… i go shopping 😉
Hi Sam,
I intend to buy this wonderful font, but I have an issue. Please let me know, why it redirects me automatically to Paypal account, I want to buy it using VISA card…
Please help!
Thank you in advance!
Hi Ales,
Thanks for your comment and that’s great to hear! At the moment we do only use PayPal as a payment gateway, however it’s still very simple to pay with a VISA card without having a PayPal account. When you’re re-directed to PayPal you can simply select ‘Pay with Debit or Credit Card’ rather than the Log In option (see screenshot here). This will prompt you to enter your details and make a card payment.
I hope that helps but please let me know if there’s anything else you need at sam@setsailstudios.com
Thanks!
Sam
Oh… yes….
Thank you for your fast reply, I really appreciate your help and thanks for the screenshot!
Have a wonderful day!
Hi Sam,
I’m still running Photoshop CS3, and I understand this means the svg version won’t work on with my software, but I was wondering how much of a different in look/texture there was between the ttf and svg versions please? Are there images available that show the difference please?
Thanks in advance!
Hi Tors,
Of course, I’ve just put together this image which hopefully shows the difference between the two; https://setsailstudios.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Avallon-ttf-svg.jpg
I hope that helps but please let me know if there’s anything else you need!
Thanks,
Sam
Will these fonts work in Microsoft word?
Hi Jessica! Yes, the TTF version of Avallon will work, however the SVG version is not currently supported by Word. For a comparison of the two, please see my reply to Tors’ comment above.
Hi !
We have purchased this font for our company. Now we would like to use it as webfont as well.
How can we do so?
All the best,
Lisa
Hi Lisa,
Thanks for your purchase! You’re welcome to use the fonts on your website under the Standard License. If you need webfont files, please use an online tool such as http://www.transfonter.org to generate these from the desktop files. Please note that only the regular TTF version of Avallon (not the Opentype-SVG version) can be converted to webfonts.
Thanks,
Sam
What sans serif font did you use in the images to pair it with?
Hi Alex, that would be Monthoers!
GORGEOUS font! how do you change the font color in the SVG version in Illustrator?
Thanks so much Audrey! I know we spoke via e-mail but for anyone else wondering, please check out my blog post below and start the video at 1:48 for instructions on how to colour an SVG font in Illustrator 🙂
