About Set Sail Studios

Hello! I’m Sam Parrett, a U.K. based type designer, and I own and operate the Set Sail Studios type foundry.

I started my design journey as a self-taught graphic designer working in the music industry. Six years in I realised something, I was bored of using and seeing the same old fonts in every project—and I couldn’t ever find anything that looked like actual real handwritten lettering. I decided to turn an old handwritten logo project into my very first font as a learning exercise, and I was instantly hooked. I could finally create the fonts I had once only dreamed of using, and let my creative side run wild in the process. I launched that first typeface in 2014 and never looked back, committing myself to full-time font design only a few years later. I’ve since released over 100 typefaces which have been used by some of the biggest brands in the world—and continue to create new ones from my home studio in the Cotswolds.

My other loves include my partner Leanne & our two kids, two-wheeled adventures on my mountain bike & motorbike, gaming, rock music, good food and plenty of tea & coffee (a.k.a. font fuel).
